I overlooked an early step. Itis easiest for me to view problems as challenges. I like challenges, they motivate me. My hardest habit is to take the intitial time to learn the technology that can make my learning easier.

Well I did it. It was a challenging yet educational experience. I learned quite a bit about the new technologies that are at our disposal. There is plenty of practical applications for both work and play, both of which I like to do. I personally would like to explore more with Flckr, podcasts, wikis and RSS feeds. Now if only I can find the time.

I have now established my account with NetLibrary. I like that I have access to everything from books to Cliff Notes. The Ebook of the Month is a nice feature too!

Productivity Tools

Well, I am not feeling very productive right now, even though I am plowing through the 23 Thing up to the deadline. I just went to GoogleDocs and wrote myself a letter, chatising myself about procrastination. Fun reading. But seriously, I will be able to use Google Docs to help me create my EIS silent auction spreadsheet so the committee members can add to it.

Wikis

I reviewed the Princeton, Bull Run and the Oregon Library sites. Each used wikis differently yet all with one purpose in mind: to communicate and share information and content. One was for book reviews ( great site) the other was to let people know what is going on at the library and the other was a training site. What I loved best was the YouTube video. If only everything could be communicated to efficiently and effectively!

I just read Away from the Icebergs and A Temporary Place in Time. I agree with what both authors are saying. It is imperative that as a profession, librarians adjust and welcome change and let go of old out-of-date perspectives on how best to present our product to our customers. We have to embrace change and move forward. We aren't the only game in town and there is plenty of competition out there. In order to compete, we have to do what we do best- organize and make sense of the information and make it easily accessible to our customers.

Strolled around in Technorati for a bit, actually I was there last night while doing another 23 Things exercise. Top favorited blog: Boing, Boing is interesting and yes, I already added it to my RSS feed. What I liked about this blog was the most current subject- "Super Rubes" about a Discovery Channel show that is casting for people to come up with Chain Reaction Machines based on the Rube Goldberg way of doing things.

Listen and watched the tutorial. Del.icio.us is a great tool to help discover just what you are looking for. By bookmarking and tagging information, you can find similar information that others have compiled. This can be very helpful when trying to locate particular information on a topic and it can lead you to other sites. On th PLCMCL2 site I did see sites that had been mentioned earlier in the 23 Things such as the Shifted Librarian, Podcasts, RSS Feeds and Flcker.

Now this is something I could get lost in VERY easily. I like that I can see that others have similar interests. I also like that you can see the cover art which is always a selling point for me. I looked at the recommendations and found that yes, I actually have some of the books they recommended and was interested in others. And the "Unsuggester"- how cool is that?

I have subscribed to Merlin. I checked out the the newsfeeds and liked the Topix for the local coverage. Feedster is in the midst of a change so I couldn't check that out. Technorati looks pretty cool. I bookedmarked Topix.

I do enjoy listening to my computer as much as I do reading and writing on it. One of my favorite radio shows is 'Wait, Wait don't Tell Me" a game show based on a review of the week's news. Clever and informative, it is also available via podcast and now is part of my RSS feed. I've also added NPR Pop Culture Topics Podcasts to my list.

Just signed up on Bloglines. This should be fun. Since I love information, this is a great way to pan and scan through it all. I will enjoy feeds from NPR as well as The Daily Show. And since I love pop culture, I will be getting feeds from Best Week Ever, Rotten Tomatoes and TV Squad, to name just a few.

Today I went through the tutorial of Flickr. Straightforward, not difficult. In fact I had this sense of deja vu because it finally dawned on me that I had been here before. It had been so long ago I nearly forgot. A giddy feeling was washing over me. I was back where I used to be, but something was different. Yes, it was all coming back. First an inkling than full realization. The memories were repressed no more, it was Yahoo Photos.

I found this interesting picture in Flickr files under keyword "Fifties". I have never seen so much red and green together in one room this side of the North Pole. And it wasn't even Christmas. Even the little girl's socks are red. Well it at least looks like they have some sort of "beverage" to help them zone out in that hideous excuse for a room. They look comfortably numb.

I know that I am a night owl, so I decided to make the most of my time, while waiting for Futurama to come on. So now I have created my blog. Talk Soup is on right now with some pretty funny clips of some pretty unusual commercials. Now the segment is "The Worst of Home Shopping" with a clip of from HSN Quacker Factory, featuring "bedazzled" sweatshirts, QVC's Tova Borgnine's (Ernest "Marty" and "McHale's Navy" Borgnine's wife) "signature" perfume, and Suzanne Sommers talking about her dead cat while selling shawls on QVC.

Now there is a segment called "What the Kids are Buying" featuring Love n Licks Puppies are stuffed animals that who lick your face and water comes out of the end of the tongue ! Thank goodness it's 2:30AM and Futurama is now on. This one introduces the suave "Kirk-esque" Zapp Brannigan. He's trying and succeeds in hitting on Lela. Oh my.

Now it's 3AM, I wonder what's on TCM? Hmmm, Butterfield 8. This is the movie that won Elizabeth Taylor her Oscar. Some say she won it on a sympathy vote because she had been very ill and almost died. I think she had to have a tracheotomy-probably more than ever cared to know.

Well I guess I need to get to sleep. If you like old movies or new movies, remember old tv shows then post to this blog. Hey if anyone know where I can get an old television cabinet let me know. I want to refurbish it into something new.
